Principal's Message

Greetings SLMS families:

Welcome back for the 23-24 school year at Santa Lucia Middle School (SLMS)! We hope that this will be an outstanding year for your student(s), and please know that we want to partner with you as parents because you are a major part of our school family. SLMS has a long-standing tradition of creating amazing learning experiences for our students- including offering athletics, leadership opportunities, and many field trips throughout the year.

We believe in doing our best each day for our students so that they can reach their greatest potential and become impactful citizens of our coast and the world. We want students to come to a safe learning environment to be inspired to become critical thinkers and active members of our school, as well as the greater community. Our success at SLMS comes from the commitment of caring teachers and staff, supportive parents and community, outstanding athletic and extracurricular programs, and a clean, well-functioning facility.

This year, we are pleased to welcome Aymee Vilapando to our office staff as our registrar and secretary, Mrs. Farris as our ELD teacher, and Mr. Johnson as our elective teacher. We have added an Interact Club for the students to perform community service, Cyberpatriot Club, The 4th R club for girls, the Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) trip for 7th graders, UCSB and Cal Poly SLO college tours for 8th graders, and a Fresno State Football game for all students, in addition to the many regular offerings for our students.

As a lifelong learner and educator for almost three decades, I believe that when the families and school work together for the benefit of the child's education, the sky's the limit with what we can accomplish! I believe in the power of collaboration and the importance of communication; I am always an email or a phone call away so don't hesitate to reach out and connect.

Serving together,
David  K. Nygren
